Brooklyn Older Newborn Photography | 2 months Old

Introducing baby Amina at 2 months old. You may be thinking what? a newborn session at 2 months. Yep, it can be done, and it’s been labeled older newborn photography sessions. We all know sometimes things happen and you just can’t make it in for a newborn session in what is considered the ideal time.

We have always been told that a newborn session should be done in the first 2 weeks of life (5-14 days after birth). It will be easier on everyone including the baby. They will be much easier to pose, and you will get the best photos during that time. It is true that babies are more flexible in the first 15 days of life. They do sleep more and sometimes go into a deeper sleep for longer periods of time. What isn’t true is that you can’t do sessions past that period of time.

So, if for some reason you can’t get your baby in for a session during the first two weeks rest assured you can still get beautiful photos of your baby. There are lots of things we can do like different wrapped poses, simple posing and expressions portraits. Amina’s mom contacted me when she was just under 2 months old being sure that her baby probably didn’t qualify for a newborn session.  A year ago, I would have said no we can’t or maybe we can just wait and do 3m or 6m milestone session instead. I mean I think I actually did say that. Then I quickly changed it up and said we can definitely do an older newborn photography session. We had a few challenges getting sleepy time but, in the end, it was so worth it.  We were both so happy with the way these turned out.

I will be back with another post to explore why you can still get newborn style photographs of your baby after the 2 week period and before they are 3 months old. For now, enjoy Amina’s older newborn photography session.
